Coliving: living and working shared spaces

Here comes coliving, the new frontier of sharing, going beyond coworking, by joining living and working spaces, to build a unique and innovative creative shared experience

The new frontier of sharing is coliving, which provides residential units with both shared workspaces and sharing services. A workplace allowing professionals to combine work and daily life, an environment that encourages socialising and sharing.

In an ever-evolving world with a growing need for flexibility and adaptation to change, coliving proves to be an ideal solution. In fact, coliving offers innovative solutions capable of complying with the continuous transformations of the market, from staying up-to-date by sharing ideas, to travelling without constraints, while always remaining connected, and managing to optimise, among other things, the costs of activities.

Coliving is often defined as the evolution of coworking, as it goes beyond the idea of dedicating a space only to work, by adding a space for living: this approach lays on the concept that creativity is stimulated by the synergy between working and living spaces. It is no chance that many start-ups use coliving as a working tool. They are, for instance, renting coworking for a few weeks to develop design-thinking processes, or for some months to increase design capacity by using the services offered (such as private living spaces, work equipment, sharing services), without time or space constraints.

This new working trend sees different types of professionals and creatives as protagonists – generally aged 25 to 45 – but also companies, using coliving as a reference point for employees doing smart working or those who need to travel.

Sharing one’s home and one’s work at the same time certainly has economic benefits. What could be more effective than being able to exchange and improve your projects and ideas with other professionals who share the same needs?

Therefore, coliving is a space that meets the latest working, housing and economic needs, fostering creativity and sharing. It is an excellent tool for those who work while travelling or for those who do not like having a fixed residence.

Beetroot srl, though its services dedicated to the development of relational spaces, has implemented the Beetcommunity project, a coliving located in the Art Nouveau and commercial area of the city of Palermo. Beetcommunity offers, in the context of a historical building, an environment allowing a balance between work and private life: a working area with individual workstations, equipped with all the necessary tools for every type of profession from graphic tablets to screens for post production; from classic to photographic printers; a multifunctional area for business meetings, training or exhibition activities; and an area dedicated to private life with bedrooms, equipped with all comforts; but also common spaces, such as kitchen, laundry and a small outdoor area, enriched by a lush Mediterranean garden. The physical environment is supported by a virtual space, the online community, which guarantees and stimulates interchange between multidisciplinary professionals with the aim of creating, developing and accelerating innovative ideas.
