Palermo’s heartbeat is loudest on the night of July 14th.
The “Festino” isn’t just a regular religious event: it is a massive, theatrical, city-wide street party that has been moving Palermo as one collective crowd since 1624 to celebrate liberation from the plague.
We are planning to go as BeetCommunity to experience Palermo’s absolute wildest, most beautiful night of the year: the 402nd Festino di Santa Rosalia. We are heading out as a BeetFamily to witness the towering Carro Trionfale (Triumphal Chariot) slowly roll down the Cassaro, eat some local street food (if you like), and watch the massive midnight fireworks over the sea.
What is the Festino di Santa Rosalia?
The Feast of Santa Rosalia in Palermo is an absolute institution. Halfway between a religious celebration and a major social event, on July 14th Palermo celebrates its beloved Santuzza with events, floats, theatrical performances, and fireworks.
For the people of Palermo, the Festino is a day to celebrate their city, ask for miracles, and, of course, share their thoughts on the annual float!

Navigating the Festino in a group requires a bit of a strategy because the historic center will be completely closed to cars and packed with thousands of people. If you lose the group, don’t panic: mobile data might slow down from the crowd density, but write to the group and we will find each other!
