Ciminna and BeetCommunity: A Partnership to Rethink the Future of Sicily's Villages

A partnership created to showcase Ciminna through coliving, sustainable tourism, and the opportunities offered by remote work, building meaningful connections between local communities and international professionals.

Where tourism meets community, remote work, and innovation

At BeetCommunity, we believe the future of tourism isn't measured by the number of visitors a destination attracts, but by the quality of the connections it creates.

That's why we're proud to announce our partnership with the Municipality of Ciminna, a project with a clear vision: transforming one of Sicily's most authentic villages into a hub for sustainable tourism, coliving, and digital nomadism.

This collaboration marks another step in the mission we've been pursuing since 2018: building bridges between local communities and international professionals, proving that living and working remotely can become a powerful tool for revitalizing local territories.

A shared vision

This initiative brings together three organizations committed to developing innovative hospitality models and promoting local communities:

  • BeetCommunity, Italy's first coliving project;
  • COFO – Coliving Founders Partnership, an international network bringing together some of Europe's longest-standing coliving spaces;
  • Italia Nomad Fest, Italy's first festival dedicated to digital nomads, remote work, and sustainable tourism.

Together with the Municipality of Ciminna, we have launched a long-term project that goes far beyond destination marketing. Our goal is to attract new people, fresh ideas, international talent, and sustainable economic opportunities while preserving the village's unique identity.

Why Ciminna?

Less than an hour from Palermo, Ciminna is home to an extraordinary cultural, historical, and natural heritage.

Its piazzas, churches, local traditions, agricultural heritage, and authentic rhythm of daily life showcase a side of Sicily that remains largely undiscovered by international travelers.

These qualities make it the perfect destination for a new generation of travelers—people who aren't simply looking for a short holiday but want to experience a place, work remotely, and become part of the local community.

For BeetCommunity, coliving is much more than accommodation. It's a way to create meaningful relationships, encourage cultural exchange, and generate new opportunities for everyone who calls a place home, even temporarily.

From tourism to rural regeneration

Over the past few years, remote work has fundamentally changed the way people travel.

More and more professionals can choose where they live for weeks or even months, prioritizing quality of life, nature, authenticity, and community over traditional tourist destinations.

For small towns and villages, this shift represents an incredible opportunity.

Welcoming digital nomads and remote workers means generating year-round economic impact, supporting local businesses, making better use of existing buildings, and fostering knowledge exchange between residents and international professionals.

It's a slower, more sustainable form of tourism that puts people before numbers.

A project involving the entire community

Our collaboration with the Municipality of Ciminna goes well beyond promoting the destination.

Together, we've created opportunities for dialogue with local businesses, associations, citizens, and public institutions to share ideas, best practices, and new approaches to experiential tourism and innovative hospitality.

The objective is to imagine how a small village can become more attractive without losing its identity, building on what already makes it unique.

We believe that the future of rural communities doesn't lie in mass tourism, but in creating authentic experiences and lasting relationships between visitors and local residents.

Sharing Ciminna with the world

As part of this partnership, we also welcomed Canadian content creator Your Travel Friend Anna, who spent several days in Ciminna experiencing the village like a local.

During her stay, she explored the historic center, discovered local culture, met local producers, and documented the landscapes, traditions, and authentic experiences through photography, videos, and digital storytelling designed for an international audience.

Soon, we'll also publish her full travel video along with a dedicated blog post about her experience in Ciminna.

A first step toward a new development model

This partnership is only the beginning of a much larger journey.

At BeetCommunity, we envision a network of Italian villages capable of welcoming professionals from around the world while creating new economic opportunities without compromising their cultural identity.

We believe that coliving, remote work, and sustainable tourism can become practical tools to fight depopulation, support rural regeneration, and build stronger, more international, and more resilient communities.

Ciminna has all the ingredients to become one of Sicily's first examples of this vision.

And we're proud to be part of that journey.
